Daikin Singapore Signs JV with SP Group for Largest Industrial District Cooling System

On Wednesday, 18 May 2022, Daikin Singapore has formed a new joint venture (JV) with SP Group for ST Microelectronics.

This will be Singapore’s largest district cooling system for an industrial facility, with a cooling capacity of up to 36,000 refrigerant tonnes, which is set to be completed by 2025. The network has the potential to reduce carbon emissions by up to 120,000 tonnes per year, which is equivalent of taking 109,090 cars off the road.

Hailing district cooling as key to empowering a low-carbon future for cities, townships and industrial parks, SP group chief executive Stanley Huang said the solution was customised to help energy-intensive manufacturing developments such as STMicroelectronics' TechnoPark reduce their energy consumption and carbon footprint in line with sustainability strategies.

“We are excited to collaborate with SP Group, and we look forward to working together closely towards greater environmental sustainability”, said Mr Yoshihiro Mineno, Daikin Industries, Ltd.

“Daikin fully supports our national directions and is keen to play an active role in this journey, especially in going Green, Smart and Sustainable in the Living Environment. With this project, we are excited to take another step towards our goals for a sustainable smart nation,” said Mr Liu Shaw Jiun, Daikin Airconditioning Singapore Pte Ltd.

SP and Daikin have also signed an agreement to explore the potential of district cooling in South-east Asia, starting with Indonesia.
